What to pack for a Central Asia road trip
Four seasons in a day is not a figure of speech at 3,000 metres. A short, honest packing list.

You do not need technical mountaineering kit for any of our standard tours. You do need to be able to go from a hot afternoon in a canyon to a near-freezing night in a yurt without buying anything on the way.
The things people forget
- A warm hat and gloves, even in July — yurt camps are at 3,000 m.
- A head torch. Camps run on solar and the lights go off early.
- Sun cream and lip balm with SPF; the UV at altitude is unforgiving.
- Cash in som. Cards work in cities and essentially nowhere else on the route.
- Any medication you rely on, in its original packaging.
What you can skip
A sleeping bag (camps provide thick felt bedding), a water filter (we carry drinking water), and formal clothes of any kind.
